KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES to achieve its objectives (Role in Org. Structure & Strategic Impact on Organization)

1. Strategic supplier management: Collaboration with suppliers to improve the business relationship and performance. Focus on Yearly contract trading terms, business agreement outright and consignment, sourcing of new suppliers and merchandise, rebate management, suppliers visit and business review.

2. Merchandise Assortment, Pricing Policy and Strategy: Setup, manage and control business target in line with Group business target direction, mainly sales, gross profit, inventory and turnover. Provide direction and strategy of merchandise assortment and classification for respective stores. Execute the merchandising process and system through setting up SOP of merchandising.

3. Strategic Sales Promotion & Marketing: Plan promotion based on 26 weeks lifestyle and merchandise calendar, ensure effective business performance and support operation team on the implementation. Lead and provide countermeasure on sales recovery plan.  Utilize digitalization with the concept of shopping convenience to increase customer number.

4.  Direct Sourcing Merchandise: Develop sourcing route for best quality merchandise locally or overseas at the best cost in order to achieve higher profit margin. Execute joint procurement, negotiate on necessary stock commitment, and improve trading terms, business agreement.

5. Private brand/Exclusive items development: Introduce new product/category based on customer demand/lifestyle. Participate and collaborate with Topvalu team/suppliers to develop customer’s desired product, focus on cost efficiency and merchandise quality. 

  6.  Education/Succession Planning: Provide necessary training to merchandiser manager and merchandiser, develop succession plan to maintain a dynamic and well balanced merchandising team with strong customer and market driven mind and comply with company rules, company and purchasing code of ethics in merchandising.
 
 MAIN AUTHORITY:

1. Freedom to act / Decision making right:
a) Decision that impact on the department business performance such as sales, gross profit, inventory and turnover.
b) Design and propose merchandising strategy (new category, fixtures, and systems) to be approved accordingly. 
 
2. Rights to the Organization Structures:
(i.e. delegation of responsibilities and assignment of job scopes for jobs within HQ/Div/Dept under the incumbent’s responsibility, right for performance evaluation and development opportunities for the team):
a) Within merchandising structure, senior manager possess the authority to determine the entire structure of headcounts, number of sub category, reporting lines, scope of works for each role within merchandising, with appropriate approval from Head of Division.
b) Determine the performance ratings, performance feedback, promotion, transfer, job rotation, training, career development opportunity for entire department.
 
3. With regard to Span of Control (Organization/Team size)
a) Within Grocery department, there are total 16 headcounts. The allocation as below:
b) Grocery : 4 Group Merchandising Manager + 12 Group Merchandiser.
c) Addition/Deletion of department manpower, with appropriate approval obtained.
d) Possess the right to delegate approval right to lower level within the organization structure, change the competency required, including managing their career development, performance standard and expectations.
 
4. Budgeting & Approving authority (finance limit)
a) Align with R&A policy and final FAAL limit (currently not exceeding RM 10K per transaction).
b) Right for delegation of approval limits to merchandising manager.
 
5. With regard to Operations (major tasks on daily basis) within Incumbent’s Div/Dept:
a) Sales Operation support: To solve and support on merchandise availability, delivery frequency, promoter sampling, roadshows, pricing policy, promotion material.
b) New/Renovation store Opening and Store visit: Revise assortment based on sales performance and productivity.
c) Education: Product knowledge, skill training and SOP.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge & Application, Problem Solving & Innovation Competencies, Qualification/Certification)
Know-How: The depth and breadth of specialized knowledge required to perform the job (job specific knowledge or technical and specialized knowledge).
 
1. Knowledge and Application:
a) Broad knowledge of Grocery merchandise, theoretical and practical knowledge.
b) Skill required: Category management, department layout, display, cutting and overall department presentation.

2. Problem Solving and Innovation:
a) Requires conceptual and analytical thinking to understand complexes issues and its implication. Provide solution in short/long term based on existing resources. 
b) High observation on customer’s changing lifestyle and demand, react and develop further action plan to cater customer shopping behavior.  

3. Leadership competencies expected of Head of Div:

d) Building strategic alliances with business partner, store operations, across HQ department and external stakeholders.

4. 10 years of working experience in the Grocery field, either Merchandising/Operation Experienced in leading a team of people.

5. Education: Minimum Advance Diploma in any field.
